Posted by Deepak Shetty on February 23, 2009

Slumdog Millionaire filmed in India and directed by Danny Boyle won 8 Oscars out of 10 nominations a moment to celebrate but along with it another films in the running for the ‘Best Short Documentary’ “The Final Inch & Smile Pinki” .

Pinki

Pinki

Smile Pinki won an Oscar is a 39 minute short film in Hindi and Bhojpuri directed by Emmy producer Megan Mylan which also made us equally proud . Smile Pinki is a story of  a six-year-old girl named Pinki living in Dabai village of Uttar Pradesh who cannot go to school because of her cleft lips. Documentary traces Pinki’s journey from being ostracized to being treated like a normal girl after a social worker Pankaj helped her undergo free surgery.

The Final Inch by Irene Taylor Brodsky and TomGrant. Once again, set in india, this documentary deals with the protagonist Muhammed Gulzar’s battle with polio .

Lets hope along with indian based movies even movies directed by indians are equally appreciated at the Oscars in the coming years.
