Yakshagana Indian Opera from Karnataka

yakshagana Dance Performers

Yakshagana Dance Performers

During my school days after exam I often went to Manglore my native place for summer vacation. There in village we have a big ceremony at Ganapati Temple every year during that period. During this ceremony they had drama and dance performance by artist for entertainment of the villagers . I remember I use go with my uncles and  enjoy staying out whole night watching traditional dances, drama performed by the locals and the most fascanting thing that attracted me was the Yakshagana performance.

Yakshagana is a dance drama popular in the state of Karnataka. It is also called as Aata (meaning play) in both Kannada and Tulu language. I speak Tulu and hardly understand Kannada but my uncles use to explain me whats happeing in the Aata  as it was been narrated in kannada . Yakshagana is a combination of song, dance and drama also called as Raaga and Tala. Stories depicted from the epics of Ramayana and Mahabharata and the Puranas.  Yakshagana  consists of a Himmela (background musicians) and a Mummela (dance and dialog group) which together perform a Yakshaga Prasanga..

Actors wear costumes and enact the various roles. The unique feature of Yakshagana is that the female roles are portrayed by male actors. The actors wear resplendent costumes, head-dresses, and painted faces which they paint themselves. I use to love the way the performers use to dress and manage to perform for such long hours with excellent facial expressions and delicate movements of hand and feet . Its been said that earlier times such art forms were successful in educating the masses with the tales from holy books. They worked as fables with a moral ending. Yakshagana, thus, served a dual purpose of education and entertainment. Still the purpose is the same but only difference is that they are now performed in theatres with few people interested to watch this dance form. So if you ever happen to visit karnataka and an art lover do try to catch up with Yakshagana performance happening in a theatre around. I consider it to be a form of indian opera for western eyes.

Model Turned Actress Barbara Mori Ochoa was born on 2 February, 1978. She is a Uruguayan-Japanese and Mexican heritage. She has two siblings Kenya Mori who is also an actress and brother Kintaro Mori. Her parents Yuyi Mori and Rosario Ochoa divorced when she was three years of age. One day, while working as a waitress at the age of fourteen, fashion designer Marcos Toledo invited her to work as a model. By the age of  nineteen she became a successful model during that time she met actor Sergio Mayer, they had a son from their affair but they never married. Barbara Mori became a telenovela actress with TV Azteca . She got her first break in film in 2000, in the Mexican comedy Inspiracion.  Later, she acted in various other telenovelas including, Amor descarado and the highly–rated Mexican soap opera Rubí, which earned her TVNovelas Award. In 2005 she got a lead role in the blockbuster film La mujer de mi hermano as Zoe. In 2008 producer Rakesh Roshan offered her the role as the leading lady for his upcoming movie Kites opposite son Hrithik Roshan. Its said that after breaking up with Mayer, Mori dated Manolo Cardona and now the latest buzz as we know Hrithik dating Barbara Mori. Which might just be a publicity stunt what I feel , never know might be true . And this waitress turned model turned actress  is all set to sizzle Bollywood. Few stars like Akshay Kumar who was a buttler  by profession  turned to be a superstar similarly Smriti Irani so called (Tulsi Virani) from Mcdonalds to Soap Star & now Politics.

So according to me if u wanna be a star start looking out for some job in high class restaurant you might be lucky enough to be on the big screen instead of  running behind producers with your portfolios.

A R Rahman won Oscar Award for Best Original Score and now the song “Jai Ho” song was recorded in 2009 by the Pussycat Dolls have turned song from “Slumdog Millionaire,” into an unexpected hit that blends Bollywood with Hollywood. with English lyrics and featuring lead vocals from Nicole Scherzinger. Produced in collaboration with A. R. Rahman and Ron Fair, Scherzinger prefers to consider this version an interpretation of the original song rather than a remix. The music video, shot in a Vienna trainyard, alludes to the dance sequence in the film.

Lyrics  Pussycat Dolls feat AR Rahman Jai Ho:

Jai Ho!
Jai Ho

I got shivers
When you touch my face
I’ll make you hot, Get what you got,
I’ll make you wanna say
(Jai Ho, Jai Ho)

I got fever, running like a fire
For you I will go all the way
I wanna take you higher
(Jai Ho)

I keep it steady steady, that’s how I do it
This beat is heavy, so heavy you gonna feel it.

(Jai Ho)
You are the reason that I breathe (Jai Ho)
You are the reason that I still believe (Jai Ho)
You are my destiny
(Jai Oh) Oh-oh-oh

(Jai Ho)
No there is nothing that can stop us (Jai Ho)
Nothing can ever come between us (Jai Ho)
So come and dance with me
Jai Ho!

Catch me, catch me, catch me, c’mon, catch me,
I want you now,
I know you can save me, you can save me,
I need you now.
I am yours forever, yes, forever,
I will follow,
Anywhere in anyway,
Never gonna let go

Jai Ho!
Jai Ho!

Escape (escape) away (away),
I’ll take you to a place,
This fantasy of you and me
I’ll never lose my chance
(Jai Ho)

Mmmhh yeaahhhh .. hhmm yeaaaha

I can (I can) feel you (feel you),
Rushing through my veins
There’s a notion in my heart
I will never be the same
(Jai Ho)

Just keep it burnin’, yeah baby, just keep it comin’ (Jai Ho)
You’re gonna find out baby, I’m one in a million

(Jai Ho)
You are the reason that I breathe (Jai Ho)
You are the reason that I still believe (Jai Ho)
You are my destiny
Jai Oh! Oh-oh-oh-oooooh

(Jai Ho)
No there is nothing that can stop us (Jai Ho)
Nothing can ever come between us (Jai Ho)
So come and dance with me
Jai Ho! (oohh)

Catch me, catch me, catch me, c’mon, catch me,
I want you now,
I know you can save me, you can save me,
I need you now.
I am yours forever, yes, forever
I will follow
Anywhere in anyway,
Never gonna let go

(Jai Ho)
Hmmm yaeaaaaahhh
(repeat 2x)

I need you, gonna make it
I’m ready, so take it

(Jai Ho)
You are the reason that I breathe (I breathe)
You are the reason that I still believe (still believe)
You are my destiny (destiny)
Jai Oh! Oh-oh-oh-ooooh

(Jai Ho)
No there is nothing that can stop us (can stop us)
Nothing can ever come between us
So come and dance with me,
Jai Ho! (oohh)

Jai Ho!
Bai-la bai-la!
Bai-la bai-la!
Jai Ho! Bai-la bai-la!

TICKET PE COKE FREE..

Posted by Deepak Shetty on April 7, 2009

This April 1st, April fools day, I had decided to be extra careful and not get fooled. I left my house at 7.30 am for office. I got into the BEST bus to Borivali station. Bus Conductor came to me, I pulled out some coins (4 Rupees) from my pocket and told him “one station”. He gave me “the ticket” with a smile, which was a bit unusual for me as normally, conductors rarely give smile to passengers.

I smiled back took the ticket kept it in my pocket, and started looking out of the window, suddenly conductor asked me – “array bhai tu party karto ka” (do u party?).

I replied –“Yes”, but I was confused.

I asked him-“”Why?”

He replied – “keep that bus ticket carefully, there’s an offer on the backside of the ticket.”

So I turned around my Rs.4 ticket and was surprised to see a offer which said – “TICKET PE COKE FREE”, Eat up to Rs.50 at McDonald’s, show this ticket and get  Rs.22 Coke FREE!!!

mcdonalds offer on best bus ticket

mcdonalds offer on best bus ticket

So the first thing I asked him is it an April fool Prank by BEST or is it MTV BAKRA? I even gave a look on all the seats, hoping Cyrus Broacha somewhere around me!! The conductor replied – “Its not a prank. Trust me. You can check out at Mcdonalds.”. With mind full of doubts, & a smile, I folded & kept it carefully in my pocket.

When I Got into the train for churchgate, a sudden thought striked –“it must be an April fool promotional plan by McDonald’s.  So I better not go today to check that out. I should check the newspapers or news channels first.”

But nothing of that sort was in news anywhere. Next day evening while coming back home from Borivali station by bus, I asked for a ticket from conductor.

And he was the daily guy who knew me by face he handed me the ticket saying “Tumcha Satthi Special Ticket Japun Theva“ (A special ticket for you).

I immediately looked the backside of the ticket and it was, similar to what I got on April fools day. Now I was pretty much sure that its not a prank and decided to check out at McDonald’s. Next day I with my friend sudhi went to McDonald’s, had a good time with burgers and free coke!!

Really is a cool marketing strategy by McDonald’s. Great concept, A Value worth for my 4 rupees ticket which, I normally throw it in dustbin once I reach home.

So guys next time u traveling in BEST BUS do turn around your tickets, you never know what offer is waiting for you!!!

Double Chin Get Rid Of It Naturally

Posted by Deepak Shetty on April 5, 2009

Double chin ExerciseThe face look is something that matters for most of as we start getting older and there are many solutions now to make your face look good . Getting rid of eye wrinkles by means of lifting, an expensive cream would make the forehead smooth, Contact lens, makeup, pilling, hairstyle – all this could make the face really beautiful. But neck and chin are something that normally betray the real age . There are natural methods of getting rid of double chin and making the neck more beautiful, which is free, but effective. This method is facial exercise.

Exercises for Double Chin

• Sit down straight. Tilt your head back. Pull down the neck skin with your hand collarbone-high and keep holding so while you are exercising. Then pull your lower jaw forward and press your lips together. Hold in this position for 2 seconds. Then release for another two seconds and repeat again. Make 30 repetitions daily. You will feel the neck muscles and skin stretching. One doing this exercise looks like a fish in an aquarium.

• Say NO: Lie flat on the floor, lift your head SLIGHTLY (such that it is not in contact with the floor) and look to the sides one by one without letting the head rest on the floor. Will look a bit like you are saying NO. Say YES: Again, lie flat on the floor, and bring your chin closer to your chest and bring it back making sure your head does not rest on the floor. This will look like you are saying YES. You will see the difference within a couple of weeks. No need to over do this. Just once a day … say 20 reps.

Breathing Rules during Exercising

exercise for double chinWhile you are doing these exercises make sure, that the rhythm of your breath is the same as the rhythm of your motions. For example, breathe in, as you lift your head and breathe out, as you lay your head down.

Everyone can correct the form and size of their chin by doing facial exercises. The secret of these exercises is that they strengthen the muscles, lift the skin and reduce under-chin fat. Facial exercise will definitely work! also if you eat a very balanced diet. Don’t eat JUNK! because it will make you gain more than you trying to lose :) . Do these exercises regularly, that is once or twice daily, you can feel the first results after two weeks.
