India Today Book Club Fraud Offers Beware!!!

Posted by Deepak Shetty on June 10, 2009

I normally book my railway tickets through IRCTC online booking. One day I got an offer from India Today Book Club through IRCTC:

A Swatch Watch  &  Benetton Watch worth Rs.7999/- for Rs. 2150/- inclusive of Delivery charges.

indiatoday
I find the offer attractive but still didn’t trust it, so I called up India Today Book Club Customer Care who assured me of the offer and also suggested me to pay a part of the amount if I don’t want to pay full amount at a time. It was a too good offer to resist.

There was no chance of doubt as India Today Book club is a subsidiary of India Today group is a leader in Publications, Television, News, Education and a whole lot of other media.

I Proceeded with the offer, called up the India Today Book Club Customer care, had a tlk with them, made a payment of Rs. 500 (Mobile transaction), the executive promised me of delivery in next 13 days as per their rules and conditions mentioned on their site http://www.indiatodaybookclub.com. This transaction was done on 16th Feb.

I was very excited, but I didn’t receive it. On March 15th I called up customer care, he replied it has been dispatched & will reach u shortly. I waited for more days, again on March 30th, I again enquired up with Customer care who said, that the consignment is stuck some where & raised a complaint (Complaint Number : 8216),and convinced me of getting my package in a weeks time which never happened.

Now, Its too much. I wrote a strong mail to email mentioned in the site, stating the whole issue, in detail. I received a reply:

This again seemed a false assurance, as when I replied again asking about the courier service so that I can check at my end, they couldn’t give a reply to me. They don’t have any answer for it because they never sent the consignment. And as if it was not enough, they keep on sending me messages about other offers, which sound quite nice. I am afraid, other people who are getting such emails, messages etc, and are also on the way to get cheated. One of my friends also received an offer from them, but I immediately stopped to him, to even think about that.

Such incidences are never expected from a brand like India today, which cheats people with false offers.  So, I decided to post it in my blog, to warn other people, and also to request IRCTC to stop patronizing such fraudsPlease forward this Information to as  many people u can & save them from such cheat offers .

yes mr. shetty i am also getiing the same offers from last two years, but i was not attracted to their scheme as i enquired about the same with lots of people,it is not easy to give that much of discount, so u should b careful with such emails.i had booked an encyclopedia britannica n a addidas bag on condition of vpp payment, but when i reached the post office i found a small envelope in my name for which they asked me to pay me rs400/ there only i smelled something fishy is there behind all this.better pay full amount n buy something instead of going for such false discounts, they even announced my name in sweepstake as winner of sx4 car, do u believe this?.the world has changed a lot nowadays all white collar crimes r raising thier heads so b careful hereafter. bye

Srila Bhaktisidhhanta Saraswati once said, “this world is full of cheaters and cheated and not for a gentleman to live. Everyone who claims himself to be a gentleman should finish off their job in this material world and go back from here.” This material world is like a lavatory, where you cant stay too long & complain of bad smell, just finish your job and leave this place.

  6. my daughter ishita kashyap ordered one benetton wrist watch and i made the payment from my mobile 09814412195 following the directions given by the person from delhi office. but to my horror i received 2 watches instead of one ordered. payment for two wathes were deducted from my credit card. while i was making payment on mobile the person from delhi office told me that transaction has failed & make payment once again. i told him then only to make sure that double payment is not done. but he told me not to worry. but i received 2 watches. my daughter sen a complaint but got no response.her membership no. is ITBC093365. the 2nd watch is useless to me. it must be returned back as it is their fault.

I spoke to Mr, Suresh, during this time, he again promised me that today End of day I would get appropriate reply from the concerned team . He also mentioned that I could take whatever action required if I do not get a proper solution from the your organization.

So, I would request you to resolve this issue as early as possible, since I can not keep the wrong parcel item in office for long time.

The sales executive with whom I had made transaction during my purchase (28 Aug 2009) specifically mentioned himself that her belongs to promotional sales team and thats why he can offere Samsung Star 3G mobile for 6498 Rs. Please listen the conversation details again during purchase and clarify me why I have been sent a wrong item. Also I have paid 6498 Rupees (for Samsung Star 3G ) and the item sent (Samsung Marina) is not worth for that money. (market price is 5700 Rupees in Bangalore).

    Waiting for your response.
    Thanks

I got a call from Mr.Ravi from INDIA TODAY BOOK CLUB around 6 20 PM today (15 Sept 2009) regarding my earlier queries. He confirmed that there was *MISTAKE* of wrong item commitment from their end during transaction and they will refund the money back within 21 days after item is received from me. I insisted him to send a mail confirmation and asked him reduce the time for money refund, he mentioned that the money will be refunded in 2 days after receiving the refund of item.

CAN INDIA TODAY BOOKCLUB answer how can you change the period of 21 days to 2 days so quickly when I insisted to pay back quickly? Also how can I believe these guys that they will refund my money once I return the parcel through courier.

I also spent lots of time making STD calls and my valuable working time talking to their customer care executives which was Totally waste till today. How can I claim the money I spent for this WRONG transaction from the INDIA TODAY BOOKCLUB end. The *MISTAKE* was from their end and why should I loose my money for the same?

Please share your thought if any one had such experience??. Will consumer court help me to claim my money and pain I have gone through during transaction with these so called INDIA TODAY BOOKCLUB.

THEY TOOK 8 DAYS TO JUST CONFIRM THAT THEY WAVE COMMITTED WRONG ITEM AND WILL TO THE NEEDFUL. TILL THEN THEY WERE BUSY WITH MAKING FALSE COMMITMENT ALL IN MY INTERACTIONS WITH THEM. THEY THINK WE ARE FOOL AND DO NOT HAVE ANY WORK TO DO.

Just waiting for Mr. Ravi’s reply, hoping at least he does not prove me wrong…

      Thanks

Mr. Ravi had promised me that I would get the e-mail confirmation before 11 AM today (16 Sept 2009) and now its 1PM, till now *NO REPLY* and *NO CONFIRMATION* is been received yet. I do not understand what these people think of us, WHY ALWAYS FALSE PROMISES?

WHAT IS THE GUARANTEE THAT THEY WILL RETURN THE MONEY BACK? Did any one received refund of money?

I am really frustrated of these guys and I am almost lost my patience.

        3. I inquired Blue Dart courier service to resend the mobile as I have received the parcel from them. Blue Dart rejected accepting the parcel saying that since it is an electronic item and having value worth more than 5000 INR, the sender has to initiate the refund request. This refund request should be initiated by ITBC as it has received from ITBC.

        4. I have been contacting ITBC (so far I have sent more than 50 emails and made more than 10 calls to your organization which I have all the details with me) from last 2 months on resending the item back so far no action has been taken. For your kind information no courier company will accept mobile phone as it can carry sensitive data. We need to declare and have insurance for the item sending.

        6. So, I have decided to lodge a complaint against ITBC in Consumer forum. I have lodged a online complaint. I decided to lodge a written complaint against ITBC for its negligence and false commitment towards customer in Bangalore Urban Consumer Court. The Consumer Court has asked me to file a written complaint on next week with all the written communication I had with ITBC so far regarding this complaint.

Dear sushil, I hope you might understood the problem now. I have almost more than 50 emails replies from ITBC saying that they will solve the issue in few days from last two months.

I again request you to have a look at this issue seriously and take action as quickly as possible. For your kind information, the item which you have sent (Samsung Marina 2100) is just worth of 5250 INR in Bangalore today. However I have paid 6498 INR and spent more than 150 INR for STD customer care calls so far. Also the Wrong commitment from your side and not from me.

Please let me know when can you solve the problem. I am planning to file a written complaint in Consumer court on coming Saturday.

However I have paid 6498 INR and spent more than 150 INR for STD customer care calls so far. Also the Wrong commitment from your side and not from me.

Please let me know when can you solve the problem. I am planning to file a written complaint in Consumer court on coming Saturday.

        Dear Sushil,

Note: DO NOT REMOVE THE SENDER e-MAIL ID WHILE REPLYING SINCE IT IS REQUIRED IN SUBMITTING PROOF IN CONSUMER COURT>

I tried calling you today at 5: 40 PM and remind you on your FALSE promise. However no one is picking the call on the number which you have given earlier (+91 1140523781).

As you mentioned on earlier conversation on last Friday 6th Nov 2009 that I need not to file a written complaint against you in Consumer court on Wrong item delivery and pathetic customer service from ITBC , also you have promised to call me back on Monday Nov 10 2009 and initiate the refund courier request.

Could you let me know what happen to your promise? Do you have any idea how does it feels to keep sending mails for a complaint which was filed 2 months back and unattended since then.

Do not hesitate to call me anytime if you need any more clarification. As I mentioned earlier I would file a complaint against you soon and you will receive notice on the same.

        Thanks,

Subject: Wrong item delivered for purchase order 110038738 and complaint no 198091 not resolved from last 2 months.

        Dear Sushil,

As per your telephone conversation with me on 5th November 2009 at 5:40PM, I am resending this email complaint by summarizing all my initial 50 or more emails which I have communicating from last 2 months with India Today Book Club (ITBC).

The following are the details of my purchase.
        Member ship no: ITBC09102049
        My Complaint number:198091
        My order number:110038738
        BlueDart consignment no:43588348064

        What is my complaint?

        1. I am Vishwanath Kumar Kalavar, residing in Bangalore (Karnataka state), my membership number is ITBC09102049.
I had a got a call from India today Book club promotion team saying that Samsung Star 3G mobile will be given on discount. I had agreed to purchase the Samsung Star 3G mobile for 6498 Rupees and made payment on 28th August 2009 around 1 PM. I am pretty much sure I have ordered only the Samsung Star 3G and not Samsung Marina, Please hear my conversation recording with your sales executive on that day.
To surprise, on 8th Sep 2009 I have received Samsung Marina (B2100) from Blue dart on my Office address.

I have called customer care (011 40502424) and made a complain today at 1 45 PM. I spoke to Mr. Kapil, He asked me to send a mail complaint.

        Complaint number: 198091
        order number: 110038738

        2. On 16th Sept 2009, I got a email confirmation from Mrs. Jagriti, saying that it was a wrong commitment from ITBC and I need to return back the item so that ITBC will refund the money back. See below email .
        (Dear Member,
We apologize for the inconvenience caused to you.

As per telephonic conversation with Mr. Ravi Negi we inform you that as per the wrong commitment kindly send the parcel back to us on the address given below along with the photocopy of the invoice and an intimation letter and when your parcel will return back to us and update in our data base so we will arrange your refund within 2 to 3 days.

I am Vishwanath Kumar Kalavar, yet to confirm the refunded amount in my account. I suggest all my fellow shoppers based on my experience.
PLEASE DO NOT DO ONLINE SHOPPING WITH INDIA TODAY BOOK CLUB (ITBC) unless you are very much sure about the deal because

        1. ITBC make FALSE commitments.
        2. ITBC does not care of customer after receiving the transaction money.(I made complaint on September 28 2009 on wrong item delivery)
        3. ITBC customer care is Pathetic, they make FALSE commitment of solving complaints in 24hours everytime you call them.
        4. The customer care number is STD, I have spent 150 Rs on calling them, they refused to refund that money even the mistake from their end.
        5. Their toll free customer care number never worked for me.
        6. ITBC will give you lots of PAIN and Mental Harassment once you became a member of ITBC.
        7. They send lots of SPAM emails which are FAKE(I have 50 in my inbox atleast as of today. They called me and mentioned that I have won 8lakhs as a part of 60lakhs bumber prize,I wonder why ITBC can not concentrate on not making FALSE commitments).
        8. I still have case on them for wrong commitment in Consumer forum.

        BE AWARE of ITBC.

        Regards,

Thanks for finally accepting that wrong commitment from your end.

However I have seen many complaints regarding refunding money after you receive back the item. Below link is the one example for the same.

India Today Book Club Fraud Offers Beware!!!

Also, I would like to re-iterate the conversation I had with Mr. Ravi Negi, he promised me refunding the courier charges, however this is not mentioned in your mail.

I also ask you to refund all my expenses for STD charges which I have spent on your customer care as it was a mistake from your side. I am very much sure as per consumer law, I am eligible for getting those expenses since the WRONG COMMITMENT was from your side. If I am not eligible to get the money I spent for the customer care telephone conversations, please explain why I am not eligible, So that I can cross check with Consumer court.

I have inquired BLUE DART about sending back my mobile, they rejected saying that they can not take this item under normal courier since the value of the item is more than 5000 (actually it is 6498 Rs) and also it is electronic item. I wonder how was it send to me before? Was BLUE DART aware of this item value and type?

I would request you to arrange the courier to re-collect the item from my place and pay back the money immediately, if you can not do that please explain why so that I can cross check with Consumer court.

      Thanks,
      Vishwanath

The earlier address given by “Jagriti” for resending back the item and now which you have given both are different. Also you have mentioned that sending a fresh parcel as replacement. However my complaint is of Wrong item delivery and you have agreed to credit back the money with parcel charges. Also I have mentioned BLUE DART courier is not ready to accept the parcel as its value is more than 5000 Rupees and its an electronic item.

    Earlier address

    India Today Book Club

    F-14, 201 Competent House,

    Middle Circle, Connaught Place,

    New Delhi 110001.

    New address given by you.

    India Today Book Club

    B-47, Indira Enclave, Neb Sarai

    New Delhi- 110068.

I strongly urge you to read the mail complaint which I have send before and reply why it is not possible, so that I can file a complaints in consumer court. Please mention your terms and conditions which was not mentioned during transactions time.

I have copied earlier mail thread here….

    Thanks,
    Vishwanath Kumar Kalavar.

This is very true. THE BIGGEST FRAUD IN BIG BRAND NAME.

I ordered for 16 music CDs in instalment scheme. 1st instalment of Rs.800 was debited from my credit card in Aug 2008.
I never got the item. Initially, whenever i contacted, they kept on requesting to wait for few more days and after one year, my request for refund was accepted. But I did not get the refund. Now they say, as per their records, the cheque has been delivered and the issue is closed at their end. Till now, I have not received the the refund..

NEVER TRY YOUR LUCK ON THIS.

    Regards,
    Vishwanath

Beware of India Today Book (Cheaters) Club or Bag It Today.

My membership ID with India Today Book Club is ITBC08774081. I had placed an order (TELESALES/0GA090014244) worth Rs.1897/- for Reebok kit (shirt, watch, belts etc.) on 06-March-09. When the ordered items were not delivered after more than 4 months of order, I requested to cancel my order and refund the payment. I have been following up over phone and emails for more than 12 months, but ITBC team is unable to process my refund till today. What should it be called “fraud”, “failure of a REPUTED company in online business”, ’’shame’’, or what? Is there any chance to get my hard-earned money back?

I have provided them all the proofs (CC statements, Order confirmation emails etc) many times and also send letters in writing to their Noida and Delhi offices by Speed Post, but no replies. They do not care for the customers once they got the payment.

They have started a new company BagItToday to make more money by cheating people.

    Thanks for reading!

      Durgesh,

Please look at my posting in same thread, you may understand the level of mental harassment I have gone through ITBC and its customer care service.

I personally suggest you to file a case against them, go to online consumer court and file a case with all the proof attached.

      I hope this helps.

      Regards,

ITBC | Fraudsters and Cheats | Proposal for a Class Action Suit

    Hi,

    I am Sujata Garimella.

Like you, I too trusted the India Today name and had ordered stuff from ITBC. My experience was awful. I did not get what I ordered for. I did not get the promised “extras”. And I did not get any solution either.

This whole nightmare started in September 2009 for me.

To top it all they still keep calling me.

I plan to sue them for Rs. 10 lakhs. I have started an action against them and would like more victims of ITBC’s dirty tricks to join in because there is a lot of strength in numbers.
Please click the link below and join in.

    http://voip-india.webs.com/itbcsuethem.htm

Like you and me there are lakhs of other victims of ITBC’s malpractices. There is a link in the web page above that will take you to a list of the sites on which people have complained. I request you to take the time and send at least 50 of them this mail and ask them to send it forward.

That way we can reach the maximum number of people in the shortest period of time and quickly initiate legal proceedings.

I hope we have 10,000 people and then, if not getting the money we can at least ensure that the company closes down.

Looking forward to take up arms together with you.

    Sujata

    Hey guys,

I am also facing severe issues while dealing with these fraud guys.

I have already lost my 3200 bucks, but I dont want to spare these fraudsters to let them continue their fraud.

Do you think we should unite ourselves and launch a “Close This Fraud Company” campaign.

Since I am new to this kind of campaigning, any help and pointers would be really helpful.

Keep posting your ideas here as I will be notofied of any updates to this forum.
