Rab Ne Bana Di Jodi: Movie Review

header
Director: Aditya Chopra
Cast: Shah Rukh Khan (Soft Guy) , Shah Rukh Khan (Funky guy)  &  Anushka Sharma

Let’s start with the moral of the story which intends to give the message of accepting people as they are without expecting them to change in their real self. So if you can accept the Aditya Chopra brand of surreal romance without expecting him to change his style since the last time he directed this divine love story is certainly your cup of tea.

However the moral of the story also says that, a girl can fall in love again even when she is lost her first love, but not with an ordinary simple man but an extraordinary man. When it comes to loving a simple man, she can’t forget her first love, and give the same kind of love to him, but can fall in love with a guy who is flirt.

This is the second message the movie gives, according to my review. Practically “Ye baat hajum nahi hoti “

The basic theme is about the glorification of a simple man. Surinder Sahni (Shah Rukh Khan) is a nerdy personality, the kinds who were pet with professors but rejected by everyone else. In checked full-sleeved shirts, pleated pants, oiled hair, canvas shoes and middle-aged moustache, he embodies the bland boring babu working at Punjab Power House in Amritsar. Marriage with the attractive Taani (Anushka Sharma) is more of a dream-come-true for Surinder. Evidently Taani is not very happy with this marriage, but consents to a platonic relationship with Sahni.

Vinay Pathak helps Suri to change into a youngster Raj who joins dance class and impresses Taani .He joins his wife Taani in the dance competition like Nach Baliye called “Dancing Jodi.” During the dance competition Raj performs on Raj Kapoors songs and like many other veterans of Bollywood.

There is one scene in the movie where Raj calls the power house and requests them to off the lights; here he has taken people of Amritsar for granted at the cost of loss of electricity to everyone, just because he wanted to say “I Love You” to Tanni in a different way. “Ye b scene hajum nahi hoti , very unrealistic”.

The dialogues and writing is fine but the story gets predictable after initial few sequences. Only the most promoted song “Haule Haule” is imposing. The screens are beautifully shot, locations look ok. Cinematography is good. The problem with the film is its length and a part of movie looks unrealistic when Suri turns into Raj very fast and it is unbelievable. Aditya Chopra’s directorial touch has the ability to emotionally bind you but the identity-change in the story is not cerebrally satisfying in contemporary times.

‘Wife could have easily shared her feelings her likes & dislikes” . There was no need of character change 

The performance of Shahrukh Khan is fine as usual, his costume, his dialogue delivery; mannerism in two different looks just perfect. Even his dance is convincing. Vinay Pathak is impressive .Anushka is new but looks convincing.

You don’t have action thrills suspense but those who are Shahrukh’s fan can watch the movie. Since the film is coming with high expectations many won’t find it up to their thoughts and may be disappointed.

Ya and an exciting trailer of Yashraj Next Movie seems interesting :NEW YORK

  1. I completely agree, The storyline was good but the magic of Aditya Chopra was missing. He lost his touch. I hated Mohabbatien as a movie, but Now i feel its much better than RNBDJ. And the Full credit of the movie being bad, goes to Aditya Chopra Only. Shahrukh was good, made the two characters completely diff. Anushka was good n Vinay Pathak was Great!!! Some times the film gets draggy. The Sumo fighting was unnecessary. Some thing else could be shown. So the screenplay and direction are the departments where it fails.
